At Turner Farms, we manage our sheep in a sustainable and regenerative manner. We rotate the sheep from pasture to pasture, making sure we leave the grass & soil better than when we brought the sheep in on it. You can usually see the sheep in our various pastures on S. 3rd Street West in Missoula.
Our sheep are 100% grass fed and finished. Even in the winter, they are only getting high quality hay. The moms do get a little corn treat after they birth just to give them the necessary energy and calories they need after 5 months of pregnancy and the trauma of giving birth…sometimes to twins and/or triplets!
We take pride in our lamb meat and feel good about sharing it with our community. We nourish our own family with lamb meat and we feel confident you and your family will find it delicious, healthy and nutritious!
Turner Farms Sheep Herd
After taking a pig to fair for two years, our son Gus decided he wanted to take a sheep. We said no since we had never raised sheep and had very little knowledge of that animal. Gus wore us down with his constant begging and finally when he said, “But mom, I’m a sheep guy not a pig guy” we gave in and said he had to learn everything about raising sheep. So, he went from one market lamb to a breeding ewe to a breeding ram and when he left for college in Fall of 2023, he “gifted” us 12 ewes, 5 market lambs and 1 breeding ram.
Lamb Meat
We have discovered a real love of lamb meat! Because we raise the sheep on 100% grass, the meat is so clean, light tasting and lean.
We sell our lamb year round at our Farm Store. We typically have burger, stew meat, and chops. We will also have other cuts depending on availability. We also have various Box Sales throughout the year when you can get a 20 + lbs of lamb meat for a special price. We post all those sales on our social media.
We use lamb burger for tacos, hamburgers, and our favorite, Gyros! We even developed a custom Greek Seasoning just to use with our grass fed lamb burger to make your own homemade Gyros. This is offered in the Farm Store as well! We do make them in small batches, so sometimes it isn’t available until the next batch is made.
